1882年5月30日にWyndham Halswelle(1882 - 1915)が出生した記念日です。スコットランドの両親のもと、ロンドンで生まれたHalswelleは1908年のオリンピックで、400mの決勝に出場したが、決勝のときに米国人ランナーのジョン・カーペンター(John Carpenter)によって妨害され、別の米国人ランナーのジョン・テイラーがレースで勝った。決勝は再走されたが、他の競争相手(すべての米国人)は、競走をするのを拒否した。 Halswelleは、金を取るために独走した。
Today is the anniversary of the birth in 1882 of Wyndham Halswelle. Born in London of Scots parents, Halswelle made the 1908 Olympic 400-metre final but was impeded on the final straight by American runner John Carpenter; the race was won by another American, John Taylor. The final was re-run, but the other competitors, all American, refused to race. Halswelle ran alone to take the gold.
